Where We Live

AKA The living Room...We Spend A Lot Of Time Here...

Coming Soon!

I know everyone says the kitchen is the heart of the home, but for the most part, I disagree. Yes, when we have guests over everyone ends up in the kitchen/dining room, however; the majority of the time it’s just Ty and me at home and we don’t spend a ton of time in the kitchen. Most of the time we live in the aptly named living room. We lounge and watch television, I do my nails and spend hours mindlessly scrolling through Pinterest. Other than sleeping, we spend the most time in the living room and I think most other families are the same way.
The living room is the true heart of our home but I think stylistically it is a room that is often overlooked for two reasons. 1. It gets used often and function always wins over form and 2. It’s not ever viewed as a “wow” room like the kitchen or a bathroom. I think it kind of gets the style leftovers after everything else is done.
A living room is usually the first room people see when entering a home and it can set the mood for the rest of the place. The design doesn’t have to be crazy or expensive. A room (especially a living room) can look like a million bucks with a thoughtful floor plan and well-coordinated décor.
It’s common on home buying shows, especially ones involving renovations, to hear, “just throw some paint up and the couch can go here.” Which is true, a can of paint can go a long way to dress up a room but you don’t have to stop there.
I have big plans for this room! A lot of it involves new paint and a well thought out floor plan but there is no reason why a living room can’t dazzle just as much as a shiny new kitchen.

I can't wait to share what this room will be.
As of now, we have simply set our furniture down and stuck the TV to the wall. I’ve decided on the big feature of the room, an entertainment center disguised as a simple wood-clad wall, which is going to be amazing, beautiful and functional. However, other than that I’m kind of stuck. I know we are keeping our couch, Ty loves it and I’m indifferent so he can win this one.

I love our current rug I just don’t know if it’s going to stay in the living room or not. Since this room is going through so many changes (we’re knocking down the wall into the kitchen) which will change everything about this space, I really need to wait and see how everything settles in before running to the furniture store. We will need to add seating beyond our couch and mismatched office chair but furniture shopping will have to wait for another day. Bummer.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
